🕊️ Bellodgia – Caron (1927) 💧 Concentration: Eau de Parfum 🌸 Olfactive Family: Floral Spicy 👃 Perfumer: Ernest Daltroff 📂 Source: Gilbert Bendoni Private Collection 📦 Number of Ingredients: 24 + 2 bases (include)
💨 Creative Context
Inspired by the gardens of Bellagio on Lake Como, Bellodgia was Ernest Daltroff’s ode to carnation — not as a single flower, but as a floral architecture of spice, powder, and warmth. Launched in 1927, it became one of Caron’s most iconic soliflores, blending clove-like eugenols with rose, jasmine, and ylang in a structure that feels both romantic and assertive2.
Daltroff, founder of Caron and poetic architect of scents like Tabac Blond and N’Aimez Que Moi, composed Bellodgia as a floral with backbone — a scent that whispers in velvet but walks in heels4.
🧪 The Architecture
Spicy floral core: Eugenol, Isoeugenol, Methyleugenol, Cinnamic Alcohol, Styrallyl Acetate. Carnation accord: Œillet 35 (Givaudan base) — rich in eugenol, cinnamon oil, iris butter, heliotropin. Floral heart: Rose Absolute, Rose Oil Type, Jasmin Absolute, Ylang Extra, Wardia Firmenich. Powdered depth: Benzyl Salicylate, Amyl Salicylate, Hydroxycitronnellal, Musc Ketone, Musc Ambrette. Fresh lift: Linalool, Linalyl Acetate, Benzyl Acetate, Phenylethyl Alcohol. Warm balsamic base: Tolu Balsam Absolute, Benzoin Resinoid. Signature base: Bello Base — a floral enhancer with Jasmonal, Citral, C16 Aldehyde, Nerolin Bromelia, Sandalwood Oil.
🌫️ The Signature
Bellodgia doesn’t bloom — it glows. A scent of powdered carnation petals, spiced with clove and cinnamon, softened by rose and jasmine, and anchored in musky balsams. It’s vintage in the best sense: structured, emotional, and unapologetically floral.
🪞 Cultural Echo
Often compared to Poivre and Fleurs de Rocaille, Bellodgia is the quiet rebel of Caron’s floral lineage. Its carnation accord is legendary — a balance of heat and powder, petal and spice. The original flacon, designed by Félicie Wanpouille, mirrored the geometry of Italian villas — a sculptural echo of the scent’s elegance.
